The Staffs Open and U140 teams were both well beaten in yesterday's County Championship Quarter Final matches.
The Open team were beaten 10.5 - 5.5 by Kent in a repeat of last year's Quarter Final. The highlight of the match for Staffs was a win on board 1 by Lawrence Cooper against GM Neil McDonald. Kent fielded a very strong team, with boards 1 - 8 all graded over 200 and boards 9 - 12 all over 190. Click here to view the full match score card.
The U140 team also played Kent and also went down by 10.5 - 5.5. Staffs were well below full strength and outgraded on all boards so the result was not totally unexpected. Click here to view the full match score card.
The U120 team played Essex in their Quarter Final last week and the score currently stands at 6 - 5 to Staffs, with a dispute in the game on board 2 to be adjudicated. The dispute has provisionally gone in our favour but Essex have the right of appeal. If they do appeal and it is successful then they will win the match on board count.
